Director of Public Health

"We know that people who are struggling with their mental health, can access information online to support them. This can be to reach out for support, but sadly it can also be to find information on methods for suicide, while looking for solutions to end their suffering.  And it’s heart-breaking that Alice learnt her brother had found information online that helped him to plan ending his life.

Suicide is not inevitable. We must make every effort to intervene and offer people empathy, hope and support when they are reaching out and searching for this information. The Ripple tool will provide an interruption in that online journey for the searcher to consider the message of hope and signpost to support. We welcome and support the trialling of this new online intervention, to assess the impact on people searching for suicide information online." - Darrell Gale, Director of Public Health.
