Meeting Sir Gareth Southgate and Winning the CSJ Awards

Ripple Suicide Prevention is proud to have picked up the Centre for Social Justice (CSJ) Award 2025, at an evening ceremony at the Houses of Parliament.

Surrounded by leaders, philanthropists, and public figures, our very own Founder and CEO, Alice Hendy MBE, accepted the award from England manager Sir Gareth Southgate after a deeply moving speech.

The CSJ Awards, now in their 21st year, celebrate the UK’s most impactful grassroots charities. From hundreds of applicants across the UK, Ripple Suicide Prevention emerged as one of just three winners. Here’s what happened when Alice and Sir Gareth took the stage.

Recognition for impact

For Ripple Suicide Prevention, the awards marked the end of a lengthy assessment process involving written submissions, in-depth interviews, and a detailed operational presentation at the CSJ headquarters earlier in the year.

Sir Gareth Southgate took to the podium beneath the historic arches to present the award to Ripple Suicide Prevention. His speech, which highlighted the severe and often hidden reality of suicide in the UK, can be watched in full below.

After the event, Sir Gareth shared the speech online and commented, saying:

“What emerged was the most remarkable personal story and an organisation that is literally saving lives. Suicide is the number one killer of men under 50. I’ve seen how powerful it is when someone steps in at the right time. Ripple does just that with an ingenious technological intervention for people who are searching online for advice on how to end their life.”

Southgate went on to speak about the strength and determination needed to transform personal tragedy into national impact.

“It’s been a privilege to get to know Ripple and their remarkable young founder Alice. It’s people like Alice who renew my belief in our nation."

Alice Hendy MBE accepts the award

Alice founded Ripple Suicide Prevention after losing her brother, Josh, to suicide. During the award ceremony, she reflected on receiving national recognition five years after his death. Alice said:

“We are deeply honoured to be recognised by the Centre for Social Justice for our work in suicide prevention. The timing of this award is particularly poignant to me, as it comes five years after I lost my brother, Josh, to suicide.

“I founded Ripple Suicide Prevention to ensure that individuals searching for harmful content online are instead met with immediate help and support – and to prevent other families from experiencing such devastating loss.”

Alice Hendy MBE

“Today, Ripple’s technology protects nearly two million people globally. To be named among the UK's most impactful grassroots charities is a powerful acknowledgement of the difference we’re making. The CSJ support and recognition will help us expand our reach and continue saving lives."

A milestone moment for supporters

In addition to receiving huge recognition and £40,000 in funding from the CSJ, this award marks a major milestone in Ripple’s journey.

The evening reflects the impact of our digital crisis intervention tool, the dedication of our team, and the growing national acknowledgement of the urgent need for innovative suicide prevention measures – online and offline.
